Visit To Dundee WASPS Artists Studios ....

We headed to Dundee's WASPS studio space to talk with some of the artists who work there.  Paola McClure's 3D textile creations really caught our eye and she took time to chat with us about her work and what inspires her.
Paola returned to Dundee after 10 years in Glasgow & said that getting her studio space was an important part in that decision.  She describes her work as "a big soup of lots of things", cheeky & frivolous but with something more complex beneath.
Paola studied Illustration & Print Making but was always interested in sewing and playing with fabrics, including quilt making. While studying she was influenced by traditional artists like Turner, Delacroix & Goya.  However, The Primatives & kitsch design also appealed to her and shared space on her walls.
Someone who has influenced Paola in her later career is Niki Saint Phalle who creates fibreglass sculptures of the female form.  We really liked her fun creations and will be keeping an eye out for her work in future.
